What our partners say

“Our partnership with A to Z has been invaluable to us. They are a partner in all that we do. They want us to succeed as much as we want to succeed and continually work towards that goal. They truly invest in us as an organization and as people.”

“A to Z Communications provides clients with the energy and impact needed in a higher education world where resources are limited, collaboration is required, and expectations are high. With A to Z, we achieved our results faster than we ever imagined. They far exceeded any of our expectations by developing a website and online tool that expanded our communication goals.”

“A to Z helped Tech accomplish an application goal that has been elusive for us. Through smart marketing, narrowly targeted digital efforts, and the work of our admissions team, we saw more applications in the fall of 2021, than the previous five years.”

Frequently asked questions

How long does the AEO Readiness assessment take? And is there a cost to take it?

A few minutes. Most people finish it in one sitting. It asks a short set of questions about your current content, site structure, and search visibility, nothing that requires pulling reports or looping in your web team first.

No. The assessment is free. It's built to give you an honest, no-strings read on where your organization's content stands with AI search tools today, before you decide whether a deeper conversation makes sense for you.

If your score points to real gaps, we're glad to talk through what closing them looks like.

What happens to my answers / is anything shared or made public?

Your responses are used only to calculate your score and shape the specific recommendations you get back—nothing more. We don't publish individual results, and nothing you enter here becomes public without your say-so.

Questions about how your information is handled? Ask our team directly before you start.

Who should take this? Marketing alone, or leadership too?

Marketing and communications leaders get the most immediate use from the results, but AEO touches how an organization's whole story gets verified—named proof points, credentialed experts, clear methodology—which often reaches beyond the marketing team alone.

The assessment works either way; if leadership wants a joint walkthrough of the results, we're happy to set that up.

What happens after I get my score?

You'll see where your content stands today and which specific gaps are keeping it from being cited by AI tools, along with recommended next steps based on your results. A score is a starting point, not a verdict. It doesn't guarantee future citations on its own.

From there, some organizations run with the recommendations on their own; others ask us to walk through the results together. Either way, the conversation is free.

What is AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and how is it different from SEO?

AEO is the practice of structuring content so tools like ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Perplexity can find it, understand it, and cite it—not just rank it. Traditional SEO wins clicks on a results page. AEO wins citations inside an answer, whether or not that answer ever sends someone to your site.

Take the assessment above to see where your own content stands.

Why does AEO matter now?

Roughly 68% of Google searches now end without a click, and pages where an AI Overview appears see click-through drop by about 60% (Search Engine Land, 2026). Ranking well no longer guarantees a visit. The organizations that win are the ones AI tools choose to cite, not just the ones that show up.

The assessment above shows exactly where your content stands on that spectrum.

How do I know if my content is being pulled into AI-generated answers?

The clearest signal is a page that ranks well in Google Search Console but gets almost no clicks—especially on long, oddly specific queries that read like something an AI asked on someone's behalf rather than something a person typed. That pattern doesn't prove citation by itself, but it's the first place to look.

Want a second set of eyes on your own Search Console data? That's a conversation, not a quiz question—reach out to our team.

What makes content "quotable" to an AI search tool?

AI tools favor content that answers a specific question early, defines terms in plain language, and backs claims with real proof—a named result, a specific number, a named expert. Generic, promotional language that could describe any organization is the fastest way to get paraphrased and discarded instead of cited.

Want to take a closer look at your AEO readiness?

Meet with Hannah

Let's go beyond the score and take a closer look at how your content is actually working. We’ll look at key pages through both a higher ed marketing and AEO lens—how clearly you’re answering the questions prospective students are asking, whether your claims are backed by specific proof, how easy your content is to understand and verify, and where there may be gaps keeping it from becoming a trusted source for AI-generated answers.

From there, we’ll help you prioritize the opportunities that matter most and identify practical ways to strengthen your content—without turning AEO into one more overwhelming item on your marketing to-do list.
